ABOUT YALE SECONDARY HIGH SCHOOL

Yale Secondary School, situated in Abbotsford, BC is a semestered school serving about 1240 students. After fourteen years as a junior high, Yale became a full secondary school and graduated its first class of grade 12's in 1988. Recent surveys identified Yale as the top academic public high school in the district and one of the best in the province. In most years, Yale students are awarded significantly more scholarships than any other school in Abbotsford

Yale offers over 250 different courses and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. The range of educational opportunities available at Yale has led to our fine reputation. We offer several Advanced Placement courses and support them with Honours courses throughout the grade levels.

Yale also offers a wide-ranging and intensive program in visual art, theatre and music, which presents students with many opportunities to show their talents. This year, Yale's musical theatre program is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the broadway classic, CATS. This spring, music talent from all corners of the school will emerge to compete in the annual Yale Idol.

Yale Students Leadership program is always working to improve the school with a variety of service projects, in addition to dances, weekly student activities, and student appreciation days. The Leadership Program has facilitated Lion Pride - the culture and belief in student ownership of their school. Leadership classes are offered for students in every grade, culminating each year with Canada Day in May.

Yale students enjoy many extra-curricular options - especially in sports. Yale offers a full range of high school sports including Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, Rugby, Golf, Water Polo, and Track and Field. Our athletic program is enjoying terrific success with teams ranked provincially in volleyball, swimming, rugby, soccer, wrestling, and basketball. Both our golf and basketball programs have earned provincial team championships. In addition, Yale offers a variety of clubs including Ultimate, Chess, Animae, Photography, Eco, and Robotics.

The school supports learning at all levels by the use of our "vertical teaming,"  system in which learning outcomes are linked from grade to grade. Teachers see parents as partners in learning and many teachers have adopted on-line posting of marks so parents have immediate access to information on their children's progress. Yale Secondary offers programs of studies to meet the needs of all students.
